Subject: ForumFunGame #5 OpeningVote

Message:
Looks like WT won#4. This one I'd like to make several changes.
First, to put in the first move or so, to start from. And decide which by a PopularityPoll. So there will be three days from now, to post your vote as to which opening choice you'd rather participate in, of these:
(A)1.e4 e6 2.d4 d5
(B)1.e4 d5 3.exd5
(C)1.b4 {for this,also indicate color preferred, to be sure enough players for both}
******
So please cast a vote for (A)(B)or(C) regardless of which side you will prefer to play on. You may suggest a different opening , after voting, if you wish. If everyone jumps onto it instead, then we'll use it. But am only taking these alternate suggestions on March 6 or 7th. Voting will end sometime on the 10th,
most likely.
********
The other change I wish to try is to allow a comment by the posting player about the game, or his move, as long as it does not exceed 5 words and cannot name a specific square; nor advise to make a certain follow-up move to the posters. This is to add some Fun and a bit of continuity. You can see what you can get away with, but staying in letter and Spirit of the Rule :))
************************************
The rest of our previous Rules apply and follow. Plus this one: In this game, Moderator reserves the right to Change the Rules during play! But that is just if any good ideas appear, that will build interest or increase fun. Not to help out the moderators team unilaterally:))
heh heh }B-)

OLD RULES Renewed =

Message:

The rules:
#######################################################
[*Foremost is to enjoy the game(s). So RULES here are guidelines we try to follow. But no penalty or negativity about any infraction or misunderstanding of them. In that case, we'll simply clarify and continue the game.]
^^
*Please DO have a board kept set-up to follow the game, if you wish to play. Thus, No "blindfold" moves, Please!
^^
*Anyone with Forum posting privleges can join at any time, but can only make moves for one side or the other; therefore must stick with the color that their first accepted move is.
^^
*When more than one player posts for the same move number, then the first legal move posted will be the accepted move in the game.
^^
*A player can post a move for his side at any point, but cannot make two consecutive moves. Some other player must make a move before the last player to post an accepted move can post another one. (At this time, Conditional Moves will not be made; but might be tried in the future sometime. Probably a later game.)
^^
* A game will be considered RESIGNED if no one posts a move within 60 hours for the side whose turn it is. 24 hours will though be added on Sundays at 00:01 AM.
^^
[*The first player to post an accepted move for that color (excluding the moderator) will be the Captain of that side for the game.
^^
*After move 30 it is possible to offer and draw or resign. Any player posting a move can suggest to his team to offer a draw or resign the game. The team then vote on the suggestion. The team captain counts the votes from the team members. The vote is valid if 2/3 of the team votes and is desided by simple majority rules (the team captain has two votes in case of a tie). In case of less than 2/3 of the team voting the game continues.

The captain can also at any time (after move 30) call for a vote on a draw offer or resignation.

From the time of the request the team has 3 days to vote. The game will be paused during the voting.
^^
*The person to create a new FORUM game will be REFEREE/MODERATOR. Moderator posts WILL BE TYPED TOTALLY IN CAPITAL LETTERS, THUS EVERYONE ELSE IS ASKED TO REFRAIN FROM USING ALL CAPS IN THEIR POSTINGS.
^^
*All participant or spectators are welcome to post notes after the game. Additionally, participants may comment as the game goes on as long as the move commented upon is at least 5 moves in the past. If any move sequence given as arising from that prior move#, try to avoid coming close to the present position. This is just to avoid commentary that could affect the ongoing play or strategy.
[Still, its all in fun and so if it doesn't work out well, then next time notes can be prohibited until game completion.]
^^
Any suggestions about Rules or format are most welcome.
********************************************

Try to post the move in the topic like this:

21... d3 (a move for Black)

And the whole game move order (with your new move at the end) in the subject along with comments.

Have fun!
Regards, CraigAC

Vlad Kramnik and Magnus Carlsen go toe-to-toe at Wijk aan Zee — Corus Wijk aan Zee, the most popular event on the chess calendar, ends tomorrow with ex-champion Vlad Kramnik and the world No1 Magnus Carlsen competing for the lead in the closing rounds. Kramnik won their individual game impressively, but the 19-year-old Norwegian has the easier finish. Carlsen is not yet dominating his chess peers in the style of Bobby Fischer and Garry Kasparov at their peaks, but he is already the man to beat. The reigning world chess champion Vishy Anand has played an uncharacteristically low-key tournament, drawing his first nine games. Nigel Short, in his strongest event for years, has struggled in some games but missed a clear win against Kramnik. ...

Vladimir Kramnik edges ahead — Vishy Anand may have taken Vladimir Kramnik’s world title but he did him a favour in tenth round at Corus chess tournament when he broke his run of nine draws and defeated the co-leader Alexey Shirov. It was Shirov’s first defeat and Kramnik’s nervy draw with Vassily Ivanchuk gave him the sole lead on 7/10 with three to play but as well as Shirov he has world number one Magnus Carlsen in hot pursuit. Carlsen defeated Sergey Karjakin in what your correspondent found a mystifying game in which Karjakin, playing white seemed to have the initiative and better placed pieces but was soon worse. So the chess tournament is set up perfectly for ...

Kramnik claims Carlsen — Vladimir Kramnik played what he described as feeling like “his greatest ever game” to defeat Magnus Carlsen in the ninth round of the Corus chess tournament at Wijk aan Zee. The former world chess champion moved into the joint lead with Alexey Shirov and avenged his defeat at Carlsen’s hands at last December’s London Chess Classic. Scores with four to play: 1-2 Shirov, Kramnik 6.5/9; 3-4 Carlsen, Karjakin 5.5; 5-7 Ivanchuk, Dominguez, Nakamura 5; 8-9 Leko, Anand 4.5; 10 Caruana 3.5; 11-13 Tiviakov, Short, Van Wely 3; 14 Smeets 2.5; ...

Shirov in Sveshnikov — Vladimir Kramnik made his move in the eighth round of the Corus chess tournament at Wijk aan Zee and defeated the US chess champion Hikaru Nakamura to join Magnus Carlsen in second place. Alexey Shirov remains half a point ahead with five to play and he tested Magnus Carlsen’s chess opening preparation by challenging him to repeat the line that decided last year’s MTel tournament when Carlsen lost badly. A fascinating game. In the Sveshnikov Sicilian Black often sacrifices pawns for activity. White is three pawns ahead at the end but cannot coordinate. ...

Hikaru beats leader at Corus Chess Tournament — Let's start with an update to the Corus Chess Tournament, which is getting more exciting by the day. It had seemed that U.S. chess champion Hikaru Nakamura's bid to win the event might be slipping away. Coming into the seventh round Saturday, Hikaru had made three straight draws. He was tied for second place, 1.5 points behind the leader, Alexei Shirov of Spain. Not a bad showing, but the 22-year-old New Yorker has ambitions of winning the chess tournament and clearly establishing himself as one of the world's elite players. So for Hikaru, Saturday was crucial. He was paired against Shirov and had the advantage of playing the white pieces. Here was a chance to cut ...

we can simply acknowledge that white has kindly pointed out to black that he has the oportunity to loose horribly by playing ... c6 Nxd5 Qxb5. As this line was given by White, it only helps black to avoid it.
There are other replies that fare better for black(which is inasofar a safe way of putting it as _not_ dropping the queen on move 10 is in virtually all cases better than doing so). Out of those, one should be choosen.

Maybe we could all just look very blatantly at stendhar and say, each at his own volume and to noone in particular "SOMEONE ought to read the rules before playing here. SOMEONE should go to the blackboard and write "I will not discuss an ongoing game ever again" a hundred times. Not that I would name NAMES, but just a general remark, tup-di-dup-di-dup" ;o)

But, as I hate 1) e4 d5 anyway - I would be fine with starting over as well...
