2011 Tal Memorial — I am reporting from the 2011 Tal Memorial, held Nov. 16-26 in Moscow. I am also 10 hours later than my St. Louis readers, so that means I am reporting from the future! The Tal Memorial is named after Mikhail Tal, the eighth World Chess Champion and a Soviet chess legend. This prestigious event features 10 chess players, all grandmasters, in a round-robin format, and this field is quite possibly the strongest of any chess tournament, ever. The players in the event, and their rating/world rank according to FIDE, the World Chess Federation, are as follows: Magnus Carlsen: 2826 (1), Viswanathan Anand: 2811 (2), Levon Aronian: 2802 (3), Vladimir Kramnik: 2800 (4), Vassily Ivanchuk ...

ccmcacollister, is 3. - Nf6 a valid move (as usethepawn´s first two moves differ from the moves already done?

Message: IF YOU MEAN SOMETHING LIKE SAYING
"4.g3 to permit Bh3 to control the c8/h3 diagonal" (a deliberately silly example) , THEN I DON'T THINK SO ... SINCE IT WOULD GIVE AWAY STRATEGY TO BOTH SIDES OF THE BOARD. I'D RATHER LET PEOPLE WORK THAT OUT WITHOUT ASSISTANCE, AND LET THOSE WHO MOVE CHOOSE BETWEEN ANY ALTERNATIVE GOALS.
BUT I'M NOT SURE I KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU MEAN. FEEL FREE TO CLARIFY HERE IF IT CAN BE DONE SAFELY ... OR BY PM MESSAGE IF YOU PREFER.

4. g3 Be7
5. Bg2

Message: I THINK IT WOULD BE HELPFUL FOR ORDERLINESS IF WE ALL PUT THE MOVE NUMBER AND OUR CHOSEN MOVE IN THE "Subject" LINE, AS I DID FOR THE LAST MOVE MADE JUST ABOVE THIS POST {5.Bg2}.
****
THEN THE PLAYER CAN SHOW IT ADDED TO THE PRECEEDING MOVES, PASTED-IN LIKE I DID, IF THEY KNOW HOW TO PASTE.
{And if anyone does not know how to paste, it is a great thing to learn! And tag1153 just ask the pertinent Question of how to do it, in his GK-Forum thread called "Copy and Paste" which is at:
-> gameknot.com if you want to learn it.}
Pasting will also eliminate typographical errors of the prior positions.
***
[PS// another Great thing to know, if you don't, is to try the "CONTROL - F function on your browser. It saves a lot of search/sort time whenever needed]
