Message: I have searched around for a thread on favorite/best chess databases and have not found one. I
am interested in getting one but am at a loss for what to look for and which databases are
considered "best".
Thanks for the tips...

Message: I know Chess Base, Bookup, and I think Chess Assistant have free versions.
Try them, decide, and if they don't do enough, then think about buying one.
I use Chess Base Light, it's enough for me.

Message: .... Definately best is a USED d-Base from some retiring GM or ICCM . . . complete with notes and evaluations.
.....I just got ChessBase several months ago (from a generous gift-giver) and like it but still working at learning it. Just not enough time, but hope to do more with that in the next couple months.
.....The one I started with was called KnightStalker, which I liked a lot for the simplicity of it. So it was great to start with. Of course C/B can do so much more. I would offer you my K/S to try but it is in the 386 with the broken disc-drive. And the original disc is gone. (I think maybe B*** did it ! :)

Message: Puedes buscar en google SCID, es gratis y lo instalas en tu computadora.
Despues puedes bajar twic chess son bases semanales y puedes construir tu propia base, incluso en ella puedes incluir tus propios juegos.
So long.

Chess news:
The checkmate club -- The University of Maryland, Baltimore County may not be the football and basketball powerhouse that its much larger sibling at College Park is, but when it comes to fielding world-class chess contenders, watch out. Its players' victory in the Final Four over three Texas teams at the national college chess championships in Brownsville over the weekend — the sixth chess championship the school has brought home during the last 10 years — is about as good as it gets. The team itself embodies in microcosm the ethic of excellence that UMBC President Freeman Hrabowski III has tirelessly promoted for the entire school and its programs during the last ...
Robot chess opponent -- Hopefully Dennis who is playing with a a robotic arm as his chess opponent has not input the necessary code to have the arm reach over and choke the life out of him should he win the chess match. The Lynxmotion AL5A robotic arm is, after all, full well capable of plucking each chess piece and moving it to the next space. This is made possible thanks to a Python script Dennis himself created to process the moves and decide on the next move. A webcam is used to capture the location of the desired pieces on the chess board in order to help it in its task. ...
Final two rounds produce an exciting climax to the German chess league -- Russia's national chess league may be the strongest in the world but Germany's Bundesliga runs it close and its media profile is far higher. The final two rounds last weekend began with Baden-Baden and Solingen on 24 points from 13 matches, Werder Bremen 23 and Mulheim 20. Baden-Baden is the cash-rich team and even boasts the world chess champion, Vishy Anand, and world No1, Magnus Carlsen in its squad, though the Indian has played only two games and the Norwegian none. But the active regulars are so strong that Michael Adams, the England No1, plays only on a mid-board in the eight-man team. Werder Bremen, which has links with the football club, fields ...
