I've started using it as an aid to calculation & have begun to rely on it in the endgame. I feel this may not be a good habit to get into for OTB games where it's just you & your head. If you want to play the games here on GK "as if" they were OTB games, that's up to you. But I feel you'd be missing much on the specific experience of a correspondence game - ie. being able to consider moves at your leisure, shuffle some pieces around, and making a move only when you're absolutely certain it's the best one. My advice to you - don't put handicaps on yourself. Just do your best to succeed in any given game. And here on GK, it means analyzing the board properly.... who knows, maybe you'll discover some amazing combinations you would have missed otherwise ?! |

Message: When I click on "analyze the board" a separate window comes up with a board containing the current position in the game. There are buttons below the board which allow me to replay the moves of the game. But I cannot move the pieces around and try out future lines of play. It seems as though the people in this thread are talking as if this is possible. Am I missing something? Or am I misunderstanding the conversation? Or perhaps this is a feature for paying members only? It seems to work a bit more slowly then the main game interface but you can click on any piece & then click anywhere else & it'll put that piece down there. It's a board setup interface so it doesn't understand legal moves. Give it another go! Zdrak - good point - I guess I'm trying to use GK for OTB practice but it's not really like that given the timescales involved. I fear not being able to analyse though if I get lazy with this feature. It's sort of the opposite to learning to play blind! Cheers. }: ) |

You will probably improve more in OTB if you don't use the analyze the board feature and just look at the board. However, if your goal is to win games on gameknot, then I suggest not only using this feature, but setting up the position on a chessboard and moving the pieces around. I *always* analyze correspondence / turn-based games on an actual chess board. |

Message: click on the piece..wait..the piece chosen should show a 'red square' outline..then you can move it..click on the square you want to place it. Always wait for the designated piece to become outlined in red....if it doesn't..something wrong...contact webmaster. If your connection is slow this could be your problem. I used to have quite a delay waiting for the 'red square' when useing a phone line connection. Cable now...works like a charm Hope this helps. luck victord |

It can be while shopping in the store, cooking etc etc. The hardest part is to transact text into images, at least that is what I think. After a while you can start to recognize positions in your head which also helps you OTB a lot. |

There's an option to allow java script to 'change images' (in Mozilla it's under Edit/Preferences/Advanced/Scripts and Plugins). If this is not set (which it may not be if you're using high security options) then the Analyse Board feature won't let you change anything - if this is enabled it works fine. Hope this helps. }: ) |
