Chess Software recommendations Can anyone recommend a free chess program that I can download, suitable for a beginner to practice on (ie multiple levels of difficulty, instruction, etc.)?

TIA

goto KChess Elite isn't too bad. You can get it off www.download.com. It's good for a beginner.

go to www.rebel.nl/decdown.htm

This brings you the free download of Rebel Decade 3.0, which plays at 2300 ELO to 2500 ELO and is dirt easy to use, graphics are good.

Also, ChessBase Lite includes a free Fritz 4 program, which is useful for analysis.

Have fun

Chess assistant Or download a demo of Chess assistant (competition for Chessbase) at:
www.convekta.com/downloads.asp

It uses Crafty and Chess Dragon.

This last link includes demos of other Convekta software. I, for one, prefer Convekta to Chessbase, but...
